The Good Samaritan
The Police Administrative Aide walked over to the detectives once things had calmed down. “Did you get the message on your desk about the informant?”
“Message? Informant?” The detective looked at his partner and she shrugged her shoulders back at him. “No, there weren’t any messages on either desk by the time we got back.”
“That’s strange. Maybe it got lost in the commotion. Here, I’ll give you the information again.” The PAA got the information from her desk and brought it back to the detectives. “Some guy claiming to have inside information on your mysterious ‘Shadow Man’ left his name, phone number and a time and place to meet up with you.”
“Oh my god,” his partner took the paper from the PAA’s hand. “I hope his information is good, because this case is pretty much at a standstill.”
The detectives tried calling their informant on their way to meet him. They never got an answer, so they put on the lights and sirens to cut through the traffic more quickly.
They arrived at the meet-up location and their hearts sank. That note with his information hadn’t gotten lost, it had been stolen. And their informant had already had a meet-up, just not with them. He lay in a pool of blood, lifeless, motionless.
“Holy hell. Somebody did a number on our friend here.” The detectives circled his body trying to take note of each injury. “Looks like he was strangled, bitten, and who knows what else.”
“Maybe he can still tell us something yet.” His partner said as she called for backup.
